The house is located on la place du village, which is the center of town, used throughout the centuries by locals as the central meeting point to share valuable or consumable goods and stories.

La Maison du Regent is believed to have been built in multiple stages throughout the centuries. Earliest records show that the original structure was built during the XIVth Century. It was likely rebuilt after the 1570s, after having been burnt during the Guerre de Religions.

The house is believed to have housed the Regent, whom was in charge of providing education to young women of good upbringing.

In the 1900s, it was primarily used as a commercial building. It is also said that the bishop of Polverel (1607-1637), a soldier prior to his appointment in the religious order, bough the house to organize celebrations of a more terrestrial than spiritual nature.
